About usThe Perth Women in Mining and Resources networking group started in 2003 with the idea of being proactive about supporting people to keeping people in the industry. One way was to create a forum where people can get together and talk about where they have been and where they are going and all the issues associated with the modern mining industry such as isolation, commuting and family. The group now has more than 1000 people from all areas of the mining and resources sectors on the mailing list. The idea of the networking forums is to be informal, inclusive of all professions and of all jobs within mining and resources. The overarching goal is to be positive and largely non-technical to keep the appeal broad. Events are usually either an evening sundowner function with a brief presentation or a breakfast function with a longer presentation. In recent times functions have been oversubscribed with 200 attendees and a substantial waitlist of disappointed respondents. Networking events are industry sponsored and provide a valuable opportunity for women in mining and resources to make new contacts, and develop new opportunities and ideas for their careers and personal development. All of this is as applicable to everyone in the industry - not just the women - and any progress or positive outcomes from this forum benefit everyone in the industry. |
