Welcome to the WIMARQ Networking Group

We are a voluntary, not-for-profit group that organises talks and networking events primarily aimed at bringing together women in many and varied job roles from all areas of the primary resources industry. We seek to include people from the mining, exploration, metals processing, oil and gas industries. All are invited including lab technicians, administrative staff, geologists, metallurgists, engineers, operators, government staff, lawyers and human resources staff, amongst others. Women and men from all parts of the mining and resources industry are warmly welcomed to attend for the opportunity to meet others and expand their networks within the industries.

We hope you are able to come and join us at our next function. Our events attract around 50 to 120 people and we have been fortunate to engage some inspiring speakers and great sponsors and supporters. We aim to schedule events on different weekdays and at different times so as to allow people with varying family and work commitments to attend when they can. We are also keen to help support regional and remote networking events - please contact us if you are interested.

Background

WIMARQ was largely formed because of concerns about the skills retention issues that the mining and resources industries are currently facing.  A group named "WIMWA" - Women in Mining Western Australia - began in 2003 in Perth for a similar purpose. WIMWA has had great success, with up to 150 people at their bimonthly networking functions, and a variety of high profile and inspiring speakers.  With strong interest in holding something similar in Queensland, a small group of mainly technical professionals from the industry voluntarily set up an informal networking group named "WIMARQ" - Women in Mining and Resources Queensland in 2005.

WIMARQ brings together those working across the broad spectrum of fields that make up mining and resources; including operations, corporate, government, research and education organisations.  The group is voluntary and inclusive, and WIMARQ encourages all those interested to attend networking functions.  The events aim to be positive and informal, and to complement and support existing initiatives such as the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (The AusIMM), Queensland Resources Council and Brisbane Mining Club events.

We are keen to source inspirational speakers, male or female, on non-technical topics relevant to the group - particularly those who have had significant or interesting experience within the mining and resources sector.  If you have any suggestions for potential speakers or sponsorship of a function, or simply some feedback or suggestions, please contact Alison Keogh at akeogh@snowdengroup.com.

We have approximately 250 people on our confidential networking list, and are keen to get the message out to all who are interested.  If you are interested in attending these functions and would like notices to be sent to you, please register by forwarding your email address, name and employer/organisation details to anitraross@bigpond.com.  Please pass this website address or information on to others who may want to come along.  We look forward to meeting you!

Regards

The WIMARQ team

Event Sponsorship
