About Women in Mining and Resources

Women in Mining WA (WIMWA) started in 2003 with the idea of being proactive about supporting people to keeping people in the mining and resources sector. WIMWA has had great success, with up to 200 attendees at bimonthly networking functions, and a variety of high profile and inspiring speakers.

This success has been replicated in Queensland where Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) started in 2005 largely because of concerns about the skills retention issues that the mining and resources industries are currently facing.

These groups have links with The AusIMM Women in Mining Network (WIMnet). The WIMnet aims to promote attraction and retention of women in the mining industry and to encourage membership and active participation of women in The AusIMM and WIMnet Activities. Membership is open to all members of The AusIMM, regardless of gender.
